Faux feeling Something done to me

Vilified

Not a feeling: a thought about what someone did.

Also known as demonised

‘I think you’re painting me as bad, or worse than I am.’

Why it’s not a feeling

Vilified means being painted as a villain, so the word is about the picture others are drawing of you. It reports what you think they are saying and meaning, not a state in your body. Hurt and anger often come with it, and sometimes fear for your good name.

Feelings underneath

Needs

When these needs aren’t met

Saying it as a feeling

‘I feel vilified.’

When you posted in the residents’ group that I was ‘the reason nobody can park here’, I felt hurt and angry, because I need respect and fairness.
