Faux feeling Something done to me

Disrespected

Not a feeling: a thought about what someone did.

‘I think you are not giving me the regard I expect to be given.’

Why it’s not a feeling

Disrespected claims that someone is withholding the regard you expect. That is a judgement of how they treat you, and it fits ‘you disrespected me’. What you feel may be anger, hurt or frustration, and naming those keeps the conversation open.

Feelings underneath

Needs

When these needs aren’t met

Saying it as a feeling

‘I feel disrespected.’

When you came into my room without knocking and read the letter on my desk, I felt angry and hurt, because I need respect and dignity.
