Faux feeling Something done to me

Respected

Not a feeling: a thought about what someone did.

‘I think you give me the regard I expect to be given.’

Why it’s not a feeling

Respected names the regard you believe someone is giving you. Like its opposite, disrespected, it is an interpretation of how they treat you, since nobody can feel another person’s regard directly. What you can notice is how your body answers it: perhaps your shoulders drop, or speaking up comes more easily.

Saying it as a feeling

‘I feel respected.’

When you asked for my view before deciding on the new rota and then used it, I felt relaxed and confident, because I need respect and dignity.
