Faux feeling Something done to me
Victimised
Not a feeling: a thought about what someone did.
‘I think I am being singled out and harmed unfairly.’
Why it’s not a feeling
Victimised casts you as the target and someone else as the one doing harm, singling you out and treating you unfairly. It is a reading of a pattern in others’ actions, and of what they intend by it. Is it fear underneath, or helplessness, or anger?
Feelings underneath
Needs
Saying it as a feeling
‘I feel victimised.’
When my locker was emptied onto the floor for the third time this term, I felt afraid and helpless, because I need safety and fairness.
