Faux feeling Something done to me
Unwanted
Not a feeling: a thought about what someone did.
Also known as unwelcome
‘I think nobody wants me around.’
Why it’s not a feeling
Unwanted sums up what you think others feel about your presence, often everyone at once. It is a conclusion drawn from their behaviour, not something you can sense directly, and it can harden quickly into a belief about yourself. Underneath, there is usually sadness, loneliness or a quiet anxiety.

Saying it as a feeling
‘I feel unwanted.’
When I arrived at the barbecue and the conversation stopped, then carried on without me, I felt sad and lonely, because I need belonging and warmth.
