Faux feeling Something done to me
Overworked
Not a feeling: a thought about what someone did.
‘I think more is being asked of me than is reasonable.’
Why it’s not a feeling
Overworked says more is being asked of you than is reasonable, which is a judgement about the demands and whoever is making them. ‘I think I’m overworked’ leaves the sense intact. The body usually has its own report: tired, exhausted, perhaps frustrated or resentful.
Feelings underneath
Needs
When these needs aren’t met
Saying it as a feeling
‘I feel overworked.’
When I worked until ten every night this week and was handed two more reports on Friday, I felt exhausted and resentful, because I need rest and balance.
