Faux feeling Something done to me

Cornered

Not a feeling: a thought about what someone did.

‘I think I have been put where every way out costs me something.’

Why it’s not a feeling

Cornered paints a scene: hemmed in, with every way out costing something, and usually someone who arranged it that way. The picture is of your position, not of what is happening inside you. Within it the feelings may be fear, anxiety or the anger that rises when there seems to be no exit.

Feelings underneath

Needs

When these needs aren’t met

Saying it as a feeling

‘I feel cornered.’

When you asked me, with my manager and two clients listening, whether I would cut my fee, I felt anxious and angry, because I need autonomy and freedom.
