Faux feeling Something done to me

Threatened

Not a feeling: a thought about what someone did.

‘I think you mean to harm me or take something from me.’

Why it’s not a feeling

Threatened can name a real state of alarm, but as a faux feeling it points at someone else: ‘you threatened me’. In that sense it is a reading of their intention to harm you or take something away. The body usually knows the feeling more plainly, as fear, anxiety or tension.

Feelings underneath

Needs

When these needs aren’t met

Saying it as a feeling

‘I feel threatened.’

When you said I would lose my job if I told anyone about the accounts, I felt afraid and tense, because I need safety and autonomy.
