Faux feeling A judgement of myself
Smart
Not a feeling: a judgement of yourself.
Also known as clever, intelligent
‘I think I am clever, or that I did something well thought out.’
Why it’s not a feeling
Smart is a rating of yourself, a high one, but still a rating. It describes a quality you believe you have, the kind of thing someone might write in a reference, rather than what is happening inside you. The feeling alongside it is more likely pride, or being pleased with how something went.

Saying it as a feeling
‘I feel smart.’
When I solved the last clue in the crossword before anyone else at the table, I felt proud and pleased, because I need competence.
