Faux feeling Something done to me

Liked

Not a feeling: a thought about what someone did.

Also known as approved of

‘I think you like me.’

Why it’s not a feeling

Liked is a guess at someone else’s regard: that they enjoy you and think well of you. It is pleasant to believe, but it still reads their mind, and ‘I think I’m liked’ makes just as much sense. The feelings alongside it may be gladness, warmth or simply being relaxed in their company.

Saying it as a feeling

‘I feel liked.’

When you rang today to ask how my exam had gone, I felt warm and glad, because I need connection and acceptance.
