Faux feeling Something done to me
Valued
Not a feeling: a thought about what someone did.
Also known as important, valuable
‘I think you see worth in me and in what I bring.’
Why it’s not a feeling
Feeling valued, as people use it, means thinking someone sees worth in you and in what you bring. It is an estimate of another person’s view of you, and ‘I think you value me’ says exactly the same thing. The feeling itself is often a quiet pride, or a warmth that lasts the rest of the day.
Feelings underneath
Needs
When these needs are met
Saying it as a feeling
‘I feel valued.’
When you asked me to stay on for the next project and named two things I’d done on this one, I felt glad and proud, because I need appreciation and to matter.
