Faux feeling Something done to me

Included

Not a feeling: a thought about what someone did.

‘I think you made room for me among the others.’

Why it’s not a feeling

Included means someone made room for you: asked you along, kept a place for you, brought you into the decision. That is a reading of their action, as ‘you included me’ shows, even when the reading is a happy one. The feelings it points to might be gladness, warmth or the ease of being connected.

Feelings underneath

Saying it as a feeling

‘I feel included.’

When you added me to the group chat for the hiking trip, I felt glad and connected, because I need inclusion and belonging.
