Faux feeling Something done to me
Championed
Not a feeling: a thought about what someone did.
Also known as backed, defended, stood up for
‘I think you spoke up for me or put your weight behind me.’
Why it’s not a feeling
Championed is about someone else’s courage on your behalf: speaking up for you, putting their weight behind you. It records their action, and nobody is championed without a champion. When it lands, the feelings might be gratitude, encouragement, a new confidence or being touched.
Feelings underneath
Needs
When these needs are met
Saying it as a feeling
‘I feel championed.’
When you put my name forward to lead the project and told the panel about the migration I ran last year, I felt grateful and encouraged, because I need support and recognition.
